Ivey Clark
Ivey Clark, age 74, passed away after a short battle with cancer in the comfort of her home on Friday, September 19.
Born in Halls, Tenn., to Effie and John Jones, who preceded her in death, she leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Tonie (James) Hayes, of Toledo, and LaBrenda Clark, of Holland; sons, Larry Jones, of Waterville, Steve Jones, of Toledo, and David (Pearl) Clark, of New Bern, N.C.; and brother, Alvin (Jean) Claybrooks. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
The family extends thanks to Heartland Hospice and special thanks to Angie Davis and Veshawn. Services took place at House of Day Funeral Chapel on September 25.

Melvina Troknya
Melvina H. Troknya, age 86, of Maumee, died on Sunday, September 21.
Born on September 27, 1921, in Clay Center, Ohio, to Gustav and Lillian (Walton) Lipstraw, she married Carl Troknya on April 16, 1945, in Genoa. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1991. Mrs. Troknya worked for Hunts Processing in Perrysburg for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maumee and enjoyed sewing, yard work, cooking, baking and especially raising her children.
She is survived by her son, Gary Troknya and daughter, Sue Troknya, both of Maumee; granddaughter, Sarah Troknya; and sisters, Myrtle Radke and Loretta Dawson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elvera Daily and Evelyn Kimble; and brothers, Frank and Charles Lipstraw.
Family and friends were received on September 26 in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory in Genoa, where the funeral service took place that day. Burial was in Elliston Cemetery in Graytown. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center Palliative Care or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Jay Salhoff, Jr.
Jay Michael Salhoff, Jr., age 23, of Maumee, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 26.
Born on March 27, 1985, to Jay and Sue Salhoff, Sr., he was a 2003 graduate of Maumee High School and was employed as a landscaper with Blackmore Lawn & Snow Removal. He was an avid car and motorcycle fan and shared that hobby with his father, who passed away shortly after he did on Sunday.
Preceded in death by his grandparents and uncle, he is survived by his mother, Sue Salhoff; brothers, Jeremy and Jordan Salhoff; stepbrothers, Richard and Randy Staffen; aunt, Sharon (John) Meyer; uncle, Ron (Sharon) Stephens; and many cousins and friends.
Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, and from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, at Walter Funeral Home, where funeral services will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the family to help with expenses.

Jay Salhoff, Sr.
Jay Michael Salhoff, Sr., age 66, of Maumee, passed away on Sunday, September 28.
Born to Raymond and Margaret Salhoff on August 11, 1942, he was a graduate of Libbey High School and retired from Jeep after 30 years as a millwright. He also served in the Army National Guard Reserves. He married the love of his life, Sue Salhoff, after they were introduced by her sister, on his birthday, August 11, 1989. In addition to spending time with his family, he was an avid fan of old cars. He always had one in the driveway and loved spending time at car shows. Mr. Salhoff was a member of Oddfellows Lodge 682 and Eagles Fraternal Order of Rossford No. 2322.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jay Salhoff, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sue Salhoff; sons, Jeremy and Jordan Salhoff; stepsons, Richard and Randy Staffen; sister-in-law, Sharon (John) Meyer; brother-in-law, Ron (Sharon) Stephens; many nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.

John Welter
John James Welter, age 64, of Howell, Mich., passed away at home on Friday, September 26.
Born on May 3, 1944, he was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and The University of Toledo, where he was an active member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He relocated to Brighton, Mich., in 1976 to start his 32-year career with Tri-State Hospital Supply, where he became treasurer and CFO. Mr. Welter also served for 16 years as treasurer of Community Mental Health of Livingston County, where he actively advocated for those suffering from mental illness. He was a mentor and advocate to many people throughout his life. He was admired for his consistent demonstration of faith, courage and composure in the face of life’s many tragedies and challenges.
Mr. Welter was an avid golfer and leaves behind a fraternity of golf “buddies” acquired over his many years of playing the game. He was an active member at Lakelands Golf and Country Club in Hamburg Township, a formerly active member of St. Patrick Church in Brighton and most recently a member of St. Agnes Church in Fowlerville, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlyn and Eleanor; and his first wife, Barbara (Giovanoli) Welter. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn (Johns) Welter; sons, Jason and Jon, both of Brighton; sister, Mary (Fred) Bollin, of Holland; brother, Gerald (Karen) Welter, of Maumee; stepdaughter, Kristen (Kenneth) Scritchfield, of Brighton; stepson, Kevin (Sabine) Johns, of Erie, Colo.; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends were received on September 29 and 30 at MacDonald’s Funeral Home in Howell. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated by Father Tom Thompson and Father James Lothamer on October 1 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville, followed by burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Howell. The family suggests memorial donations to Community Mental Health of Livingston County, 2280 E. Grand River Ave., Howell, MI 48843, or the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, N.Y. 11714.

Philip Schmidt
Philip J. “Phil” Schmidt, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to Felix and Anna (Nyitraii) Schmidt, he moved to Toledo as a young child. After graduating from Libbey High School in 1939, he proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee at Guadalcanal. An ambitious and hard-working man, Mr. Schmidt was a firefighter for the city of Toledo as well as a precise and exacting tool and die machinist. He introduced his children to classical music and jazz as well as a love of learning and an avid interest in the arts. Retiring in 1980, he and his wife, Dottie, enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S. and Europe and wintering in Florida. He was a loyal friend to many, and he lived well and laughed often. Those who knew him respected his character and integrity and appreciated his generous and loving nature.
Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dorothea; daughters, Karen (Frederick) Pease, of Maumee, Anne (Craig) Kline-LaBonte, of Las Vegas, and Phylis Klimas, of Toledo; stepson, Kenneth (Lucille) Nickens, of Rossford; grandchildren, Philip (Laura) Pease, Janette (William) Cooper, Matthew Pease, Michelle (Angela) Wernert, Adam Kline and Zachary Kline; 10 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Christine Krause. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Charles Maher.
His life was celebrated with family and friends on October 1 at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home, where a “Last Alarm” service was held that evening. Visitation will continue beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, at Memorial Lutheran Church (Douglas near Monroe), where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations are suggested to the Toledo Firefighters Museum or the Lutheran Home Society. Special thanks are extended to the ICU nurses at Flower Hospital for their loving care.

Daniel Coveney
Daniel D. Coveney, age 54, of Sylvania, died on Sunday, September 28.
Born in Toledo on June 23, 1954, to Darwin and Eleanor Coveney, he was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and spent six years in the U.S. Air Force, both in active and reserve duty. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from The University of Toledo and was one of the founders in 1978 of Software Alternatives, Inc., a local software and consulting company. He most recently worked for Silvon Software, a computer software company for which he traveled the country installing, programming and training companies. His hobbies were computers and flying airplanes. In following his dream, he got his pilot’s license and flew as often as he could.
Mr. Coveney is survived by his son, Philip; and brothers, Dick (Sue) Coveney, of Holland, Mike (Marisa) Coveney, of Akron, and Ron (Robin) Coveney of Toledo.
Family and friends were received on September 30 at the Walker Funeral Home, where funeral services took place on October 1. He was laid to rest next to his parents in Bradner, Ohio. Expressions of sympathy may be made via a memorial fund set up for his son through Fifth Third Bank.
