Martin Michael
Martin “Marty” L. Michael, age 53, of Delta, died on Monday, March 1.
Born in Warren, Ohio, on July 24, 1956, he spent most of his childhood in Whitehouse, graduating from Anthony Wayne High School in 1975.
Preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Michael; and grandson, Blayke Michael, he is survived by his children, Leah and Cooper Michael; daughter-in-law, Casey (Cox) Michael; mother, Phyllis (Korn) Michael; sisters, Patty Agsten and Kathy Frederick; brothers, George and Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service took place on March 8 at Hope United Methodist Church in Whitehouse.
Richard Stambaugh
Richard Charles Stambaugh, age 53, of Findlay, died unexpectedly but peacefully on Monday, March 1.
Born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., to Dean and Dorothy (Fink) Stambaugh, he attended Copley High School in Copley, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Melinda Snyder, and formed many lifelong friendships. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout while living in Fairlawn, Ohio. Mr. Stambaugh studied industrial engineering at Ohio University and was proud of a long career in the automotive industry. Warm-hearted, hard-working and creative by nature, he enjoyed fishing, golf and craftwork among a long list of interests. He found beauty in all things, was a friend to all people, and above all, committed his heart to his children.
Preceded in death by his father, Mr. Stambaugh is survived by his mother; brothers, Robert (Barbara) and Alan (Karen) Stambaugh; children, Emily, of Chicago, and Brad, of Holland; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends were received on March 7 at Neville Funeral Home in Holland. Funeral services followed at Providence Lutheran Church in Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Paul Phipps
Paul Phipps, age 73, of Holland, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Beckley, W.Va., on December 30, 1936, to the late Everett and Sadie Phipps, he married the late Donna (Carter) Phipps on September 22, 1956, and they shared 50 years of marriage. Mr. Phipps worked hard all his life with many accomplishments. He was one of the owners of Able Equipment for more than 40 years. He came from West Virginia to work for Nickles Bakery and was a local member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (Ohio) for more than 40 years. He also enjoyed boating and was a member of Cooley Canal Yacht Club for 30 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed motorcycling and was a charter member of the Dux Motorcycle Club in Bedford and the Blackhawks.
Surviving are his loving children, Candy (Ed/Lee) Browne, Cathy (Mike) Kolodziejski, Cindy (Larry) Hurst and Paul (Ellen) Steinmiller; grandchildren, Corey Browne, Courtney (Jamie) Goda, Autumn (Mike) Scott, Mikey Kolodziejski, Jennifer (Mike) DiRosa, Amanda Hurst, Amanda Steinmiller and Paul Steinmiller, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Elloise Kolodziejski, Wyatt Scott, Gretchen Scott and Bryson Goda; brothers, Oneal and Delmar (Maryann) Phipps; special family members, Betty Burgess and Paul Dickens; brothers-in-law, Danny (Bobbi) and Larry Carter; sisters-in-law, Ruthie (Gene) Creecy and Faye (Eddie) McCoppins; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Friends were received on March 5 in the Neville Funeral Home in Holland, where funeral services took place on March 6, followed by burial in Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Heartland Hospice.
Martin Bischoff
Martin M. “Chief” Bischoff, age 78, of Walbridge, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, with his family by his side.
Born on February 11, 1932, in Hamler, Ohio, to Ernest and Edith (Breece) Bischoff, he married Evelyn Carpenter in Oregon in 1951. Mr. Bischoff was employed by Libbey-Owens-Ford in Rossford as a crane operator and was known as “Red” to his co-workers. He was also the owner of Bischoff & Sons Trucking. He cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them at family get-togethers. He also enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, college basketball, singing and playing country songs on his guitar.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn; children, Robert Bischoff, of Perrysburg, James (Sandy) Bischoff, of Elmore, Marge (Greg) Barker, of Temperance, Mich., Judy Robbins, of Northwood, Carol (Eric) Kramer, of Toledo, Daniel (Patty) Bischoff, of Waterville, Tom (Ginger) Bischoff, of Rossford, Martin (Dyan) Bischoff, of Maumee, Ronald (Shannon) Bischoff, of Monclova and Roger (Susan) Bischoff, of Bellevue, Wash.; siblings, Emma Poulson, Betty Cooper, Bill Bischoff and Frank Bischoff; sister-in-law, Shirley Gale; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Knepper; brothers, Ray and Arnold; and grandson, Jason.
Family and friends were received and a memorial service took place on March 6 in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home. Private family interment was in Lake Township Cemetery.
Ethel Beskow
Ethel Beskow, age 97, of Maumee, passed away on Wednesday, March 3.
Born in Perrysburg on March 21, 1912, to Fred and Nellie (Carter) Cordy, she was a cafeteria worker for Bradenton (Fla.) Public Schools, retiring in 1969. After retirement she moved back to Maumee and helped her sister with a newspaper distribution center for The Blade.
The widow of Carl Beskow, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Ralph, Stanley, Leslie and Howard Cordy; and sisters, Doris Loesch and Francis Blair. Surviving are her sister, Evelyn Snyder; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service took place on March 10 in Union Hill Cemetery in Bowling Green.
Edward Shine
Edward William Shine, age 88, of Maumee, passed away on Thursday, March 4.
Also known as “Red,” Mr. Shine worked for Champion Spark Plug, retiring in 1985. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elsie, Anna and Virginia Shine and Helen Schultz; and brothers, Arthur and Harold Shine. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn (Diefenbach) Shine; children, Pamela (Norman) Yard and Gary (Terri) Shine; sister, Kathryn Shine; grandchildren, Christine Yard and Norman (Carrie) Yard; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received on March 7 at the Walter Funeral Home, where funeral services took place on March 8, followed by interment in Riverside Cemetery in Maumee. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mary Wagener
Mary Cecelia Wagener, age 72, of Maumee, passed away on Friday, March 5.
Born in Stamford, Texas, on November 19, 1937, to Allen and Mary Ann (Vernon) Miller, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee and enjoyed spending time with her family, attending plays and playing bridge. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Wagener is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Wagener; children, Kimberly Wagener, Jeffrey (Becky) Wagener and Tamara (Randy) Hall; daughter-in-law, Janet Knorr; grandchildren, Jon, Jimmie, Jeff, Sarah, Rebecca, Josh, Justin, Alex, Mary and Kimmie; great-grandchildren, Jack, Ben, Zach, Aaralyn, Diego and Selena; sister; Suzanne (Tom) Morgan; brother, Michael (Linda) Billmaier; brother-in-law, Richard Mullins; and stepmother, Audrey Billmaier. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Wagener; sister, Martha Mullins; and stepfather, Gerard Billmaier.

Robert Kittel
Robert Kittel, formerly of Maumee, passed away on Tuesday, February 16. Beloved husband of 41 years to Barbara, brother of Joyce Augustyniak and Christine Wein, he was preceded in death by his parents, William and Henrietta Kittel; brother, William; and sister, Gail Brown.
Doris Cray
Doris B. Cray, age 89, of Holland, passed away on Sunday, March 7.
Born in Oregon on September 6, 1920, to Joseph and Helen (Romstadt) Haas, she graduated from Central Catholic High School and became a registered nurse after completing the St. Vincent’s nursing program. She served as a U.S. Navy nurse during World War II and retired from St. Vincent Medical Center after more than 30 years of working as a nurse in the neonatal nursery. She was a member of St. Ignatius and Our Lady of Lourdes churches and enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlepoint and collecting Hummel figurines.
Mrs. Cray was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cray, in 1984 after 39 years of marriage; identical twin, Jean Dominique; sister, Bernadine Semanson; and brother, William Haas. She is survived by her children, Patricia (James) Brimacombe, Thomas (Sue), Charles (Maureen), John and Mark (Luann) Cray; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne (John) Mermer and Marie Brannan; and sister-in-law, Gloria Haas.
Friends were received on March 10 at the Coyle Funeral Home, where funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 11. The funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with interment in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Oregon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Mercy St Vincent Medical Center, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. John’s Jesuit High School.
Dale Stilson
Dale R. Stilson, age 99, of Holland, passed away on Sunday, March 7.
Born in Clinton County, Mich., on October 28, 1910, to Roy and Nellie (Briggs) Stilson, he moved to Traverse City in 1979 and then to Holland in 1983. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the arts from Central Michigan University. He taught in the Grand Traverse area schools for many years, retiring from Elk Rapids Schools in 1972 after teaching for 36 years. He married Ila Cox in 1936 and she preceded him in death in 1990.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Edwin Stilson; and niece, Darlene Hulbert. Surviving are his stepson, Robert Cox; four step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; nephews, James and Mitchel Stilson; and niece, Nancy Stilson.
Friends were received and the funeral service took place on March 10 at Neville Funeral Home in Holland. Burial will be on Thursday, March 11, in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City, Mich. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
