Documentary About Conservationist Shown
Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge will host a free screening of a new film called Green Fire, a documentary about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold, on Sunday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. The film explores Leopold’s life in the early part of the 20th century and the many ways his land ethic idea continues to be applied all over the world today.

Midwest Symposium Attracts Birders To Lake Erie
The 2011 Midwest Birding Symposium will take place in Lakeside, Ohio, through Sunday, September 18. Organizers expect more than 1,000 bird watchers from around the continent to converge along the shores of Lake Erie.
The symposium will feature programs and performances by North America’s leading bird watchers, an opportunity for birders to network with fellow enthusiasts, a vendor area with nature products and services, and field trips to the area’s best birding spots. AAUW Sponsors “Leave No Child Inside”
The American Association of University Women Toledo Branch, in partnership with Metroparks of the Toledo Area, invites the general public to “Leave No Child Inside,” a program about reconnecting with nature. The program will start at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21 in the Ward Pavilion of Wildwood Metropark. Steve Pollick, award-winning columnist for The Blade, will speak on the philosophy espoused by Richard Louv in his Last Child in the Woods and on his own observations of “nature deficit disorder” and what can be done to cure it.
