Lifelong Learning Program Opens With DNA Talk

Lourdes College’s Lifelong Learning program opens on Friday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Franciscan Theatre and Conference Center. Lucas County prosecutor Julia Bates and criminal division chief Dean Mandros will present “Using DNA to Help Solve Cold Cases.”

Lifelong Learning is a dues-supported program that offers noncredit classes, seminars and field trips to adult men and women. Membership is $30.00 per person and $45.00 per couple. For more information, visit www.lourdes.edu.lifelong or contact Gloria Burke at (419) 824-3707 or gburke@lourdes.edu.

Owens Offers “Quick Start To College” Program

Owens Community College will help area residents explore career options and get started on a college education during the Quick Start to College program, which begins Monday, September 27. Three sessions of the free program will be offered: Mondays and Wednesdays, September 27 through December 8 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.; Tuesdays from September 28 through December 7 from noon to 4:00 p.m.; or Wednesdays from September 29 through December 8 from 11:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Source in downtown Toledo.

Students will learn study skills and receive math, reading and writing tutoring as well as information about college preparation and financial aid. College credit is available.

Kindergarten Readiness Checklist Offered

Club Z In-Home Tutoring is offering a free kindergarten readiness checklist and consultation during September. The checklist identifies developmental stages that may need attention including cognitive, social, language and motor skills. The interview is performed in-home by appointment only. Appold Planetarium Looks At Life On Mars

The fall show at Lourdes College’s Appold Planetarium will feature a look at life on Mars, including the newest discoveries from exploration craft and a speculative look at the future. Show dates are Saturdays, October 2 and October 9.

All planetarium shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 12 and for Lourdes College students with a student ID. One-Hour CPR Class Offered By Red Cross

The Greater Toledo Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer “CPR for Everyone,” a one-hour CPR overview, on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. The fee is $10.00 and includes a take-home kit. The class will take place at the chapter headquarters at 3100 W. Central Ave. Call (419) 329-2183 to register.

Free GED Classes Offered At Penta Career Center

Penta Career Center will offer free GED classes in Toledo, Maumee, Perrysburg and Bowling Green in morning, afternoon and evening sessions. Instruction is individualized and set at each student’s pace. To register or for further information, call (419) 661-6555.

English Literacy And Civics Classes Available

Free classes are available for adults from other countries who want to learn English, study for U.S. citizenship, improve conversational skills and learn about their community. Classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. Call Washington Local Schools at (419) 473-2364 for information.
