Jo-Jo’s Original Pizzeria Opens April 12 In Whitehouse
BY KAREN BERGER — MIRROR REPORTER
As a kid, Scott Meyers’ family regularly drove to the Jo-Jo’s Original Pizzeria on Byrne Road for what he recalls as the best pizza around.
As an adult, Scott won’t have to go far for his favorite New York-style pizza, as he and his wife Keri are opening a Jo-Jo’s franchise in Whitehouse Square on Thursday, April 12.
“They’ve been around a long time. Everybody who tries it loves Jo-Jo’s,” Scott said.
Jo-Jo’s Original Pizzeria was founded in 1957 by Marie and Joseph Hashim, using Marie’s original recipes. It’s been family-owned ever since. Grandson Ron Hashim plans to spend several weeks at the Whitehouse location, helping the Meyers family as they open Jo-Jo’s sixth Northwest Ohio location.
The ready-to-go large cheese pizza, for just $6.00, will easily answer the “What’s for dinner?” question, Scott believes, as he points to a large warmer that will be kept stocked with fresh pizza.
Visible from SR 64, across from the Rexam plant, Jo-Jo’s is convenient to the 2,000 attending CedarCreek Church each weekend, and the senior living apartments that will be built nearby within the next year, he said.
An all-you-can-eat buffet – with pizza, chicken wings, cheesy bites and a salad bar – will be available from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The buffet is $5.95 for adults and $2.99 for children 10 and under.
“Even Mom and Dad who are watching what they eat can come in and enjoy the salad bar or vegetarian pizza and do OK,” Scott said.
While Jo-Jo’s signature pizza is thin crust, deep dish will be available in the same wide selection with meat lovers, Hawaiian, vegetarian and numerous other combos.
On Monday and Wednesday, all pizzas will be half off, during both lunch and dinner, for those dining in the restaurant.
In addition to serving Coke products, Jo-Jo’s will offer Bud, Bud Light, Michelob Light, Miller Lite, MGD 64, Corona and Heineken, and cabernet, chardonnay and white zinfandel wines.
It’s no surprise that the Meyers family would choose a sports theme for Jo-Jo’s décor and ESPN for the three flat-screen TVs in the 56-seat restaurant. Scott, a Bowsher High School graduate, wrestled for Ohio University and coached Junior Generals youth football for 10 years. Sons Brett, 16, and Zach, 12, both are involved in Anthony Wayne sports.
Brett will be among the seven employees at the pizzeria, which will offer dine-in, pickup and free delivery.
Jo-Jo’s will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
