Cheers Sports Eatery Opens In Holland
BY NANCY GAGNET — MIRROR REPORTER
Cheers Sports Eatery in Holland is a friendly little place with a comfortable atmosphere that’s ideal for any occasion to get out and enjoy a good meal and beverage.
“It’s just a nice little place and they have great food,” said Denise Kimerer of Holland, who dines there each Wednesday with her husband Jim.
“I make sure I don’t work late on Wednesdays – it’s our night out. We split the Texas burrito,” she said, taking a sip from her martini glass. “And Kyle makes perfect cosmopolitans.”
Bartender Kyle Wepler has worked at Cheers since new owners Chris and Phil Swary opened the restaurant in September.
With a fully stocked bar and a wide-ranging menu, the restaurant, located on Orchard Centre Drive next to Tireman, satisfies just about any taste.
“We always wanted a place of our own,” explained Phil, who worked as a distribution manager for a large pizza corporation. His wife Chris spent 18 years working at local restaurants.
The independent restaurant is family focused.
“This is a restaurant with a bar. We’re family friendly,” he said.
Signature food items include enchiladas, stromboli and traditional hand-tossed or thin-crust pizza.
“We took a common sense approach when we prepared our menu and we use quality ingredients,” Phil said.
Other menu items include hot grinders, sandwiches, burgers, wings, pulled pork, salads and a kids’ menu.
“It’s a warm, cozy place,” said Chris, adding that the location makes it ideal for families to visit before or after sporting events and other activities.
“This is the kind of restaurant that’s just what people are looking for – it’s great food and great prices, and it’s not too loud here,” Chris said.
Plenty of flat screen televisions are also scattered throughout so patrons won’t miss the sports action.
Monday evening specials include $3.00 burgers and $6.00 buckets, Tuesdays feature pulled pork sandwiches and $1.50 drafts, and Wednesday night is enchilada night with $1.50 margaritas. Thursday evening features lasagna and $4.00 martinis as well as karaoke.
Football Saturdays feature 40 cent wings all day and $1.50 draft and pitcher specials.
The restaurant will feature a steak dinner special on New Year’s Eve with a DJ and a champagne toast and party favors at midnight.
To make a New Year’s Eve reservation or for information, call the restaurant at (419) 491-0990.
