Lourdes Appold Planetarium Features Fractals
How can you see infinity? Like stepping into a kaleidoscope, mind-bending fractal zooms will take your breath away in the immersive The Psychedelic Trip Into Fractals, presented by the Lourdes University Appold Planetarium.
Combining a state-of-the-art projection system, original music and powerful computer graphics, you will feel as though you are traveling into another dimension. The Psychedelic Trip Into Fractals is a journey into an infinitely complex and visual world created by powerful computers, but intimately linked to the natural world around us.
As the fractals zoom around the planetarium dome, audiences recognize common patterns found in nature, such as shapes in trees, lightning, coastlines, seashells and more – all of which can be found within these fractal zooms. Each fractal tells the story of the processes that created it – whether the erosion of a canyon, the evolution of a galaxy or the computation of an equation.
Admission prices for The Psychedelic Trip Into Fractals are $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 12 and under. The family-friendly shows are offered on Saturdays, February 4 and 25 at 7:30 p.m.
To make reservations, call (419) 517-8897 or e-mail planetarium@lourdes.edu.

Kindergarten Information Meeting Set In Maumee
An informational meeting for parents of children entering kindergarten next year will be held on Thursday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Maumee High School, 1147 Saco St.
The meeting will inform parents about kindergarten expectations and what to do to prepare their children to enter kindergarten in August. Required documents, immunizations and college- and career-ready information will also be discussed. Enrollment/registration packets will be available at the meeting. Parents will learn how Maumee’s online enrollment/registration process works and how to self-schedule their child for a kindergarten screening appointment in March.
All resident children who will be 5 years old on or prior to August 1, 2017 are eligible to attend Maumee’s kindergarten program. Unless a child successfully completes a kindergarten program, he or she is not permitted to enter the first grade.
Please save these dates for Maumee’s kindergarten screening days. A screening appointment is required for all incoming kindergarten students to assess school-readiness. Screenings will take place at the Maumee City Schools Administration Office Building at 716 Askin St.

  • Wednesday, March 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for Fort Miami Elementary students.
  • Thursday, March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for Fairfield Elementary students.

Individual kindergarten screening appointments will be set when a parent completes their child’s online paperwork. If you are unsure if your child should attend Fairfield Elementary School or Fort Miami Elementary School, neighborhood lists will be available at the information meeting, or you can call one of the buildings or the administration office. This information is also on the school district website at www.maumee.k12.oh.us.
